How to automate personalised laser engraving orders from your shop

1. Your shop fires a new-order event that includes the customer's photo. 2. An automation in Zapier, Make or n8n picks it up and sends the photo to POST /v1/prepare, with the material and width that belong to the product. 3. Vextrify returns the prepared PNG and the settings used; the automation saves it to the folder, drive or order note your workshop works from. 4. A registered webhook reports job.completed — or job.failed if the photo is unusable, so you can ask the customer for a better one before anything is engraved.

Preparation is automatic; engraving is not. The machine still runs from your workshop, where somebody places the workpiece and starts the job — in Vextrify's desktop app with frame and dry run, or in the laser software you already use. That split is deliberate: a photo that looks fine on screen can still need a person's eye on the actual piece.

All three work, because they all can send an HTTP request with a file and receive a webhook. Zapier is quickest to set up, Make gives more control over branching per product, and n8n can run on your own server. Vextrify is connected through those generic HTTP and webhook steps, not as a listed app, so any tool that can send a multipart request will do.

Prepare a few real orders in the Photo Studio first and save the settings as a recipe per product. The API applies the same engine, so what you approved by eye is what the automation produces. Then run the automation on test orders and compare the files with your hand-made ones before letting it handle real customers.
