How we test

Built and tested in our own laser workshops

Vextrify did not start as a software project. It started in our own laser workshops, which have been producing since 2019 and needed a better way from customer photo to finished piece — and it is used there every day.

In the laser business since 2019

We have run laser engraving production since 2019, and we were never happy with the software we had: error-prone, unfinished, and split across several programs. Over the years we moved from production into development and started building Vextrify — software that keeps the strengths of the established tools and removes their weaknesses. It grew through years of daily use, steady improvements and tests in our own workshops. Today photo preparation, background removal, vectorizing, relief, layout, batches, an API and laser control live in one program.

02

More than 10,000 test engravings

Since launch we have run more than 10,000 test engravings on different materials in our own workshops, such as wood, slate, leather and acrylic. Every material profile and every change to the photo preparation has to hold up on real pieces, not only on screen.

03

Refined on different lasers

We run diode lasers over GRBL and CO2 lasers with Ruida controllers. Features are tested on the machines themselves: framing, dry runs, camera alignment and the job running from start to stop. When something behaves differently on one machine, it gets fixed before it ships.

04

A fixed benchmark for photo quality

Photo preparation is measured against a fixed set of three reference photos: a black-and-white portrait, a colour photo with fine detail, and a mother-and-child photo. A change that improves one picture but makes another worse does not ship.

05

Customer pain points shape the product

Many features exist because customers asked for them: one tab per laser with its own camera and settings, customer photos processed on the computer instead of uploaded, recipes that give order 200 the same result as order 1. We read what laser users report in forums and support requests and turn the recurring problems into work.

06

How we write comparisons

Statements about other software are checked at the source — the vendor's own site, documentation or release notes — and every page carries the date it was reviewed. When a fact changes, we correct the page. We name where other programs are stronger, and we say plainly what Vextrify does not do.

07

No invented laser settings

Speed and power depend on your laser, lens, material and even the batch of material. We do not publish universal numbers that look precise but are not. Our guides explain the method — a test grid on scrap — so you find settings that are true for your machine.
