ImagR alternative for laser engraving

ImagR is quick for one photo. A workshop that engraves photos every day needs more: the same result on order 1 and order 200, customer photos that stay local, and a straight path to the laser.

The short answer

ImagR is a good fit if you prepare a few photos and want a one-click result in the browser without an account. Vextrify fits when photos are your daily work: Photo Studio runs on your computer, has no per-image fee, saves your settings as a recipe for whole batches, and hands the prepared image to the laser in the same app.

  • A few photos, one click → ImagR
  • Daily orders, batches, privacy → Vextrify
  • Photo to laser without export → Vextrify desktop

What ImagR does well

ImagR runs in the browser on Mac, Windows, Chromebooks and tablets. It offers one-click presets for common materials — wood, slate, acrylic, leather, glass, anodized aluminum and more — plus an Advanced Mode for manual control. You can try three images a day for free without signing up; more needs a subscription. For a quick single photo, that is hard to beat.

  • Runs in any browser, nothing to install
  • One-click material presets plus Advanced Mode
  • 3 free images a day, subscription for more

Where Vextrify goes further

Photo Studio has twelve material profiles, ten dithering methods plus grayscale and 72 controls when you need them, and it runs on your device, so customer photos are not uploaded and nothing is counted per image. Settings that worked become a recipe: Batch applies it to a folder of photos and returns one ZIP, and the API does the same for orders from a shop. In the desktop app the result goes straight to the laser.

  • Runs on your device, no per-image fee
  • Recipes for batches and the shop API
  • Straight to GRBL diode or Ruida CO2 lasers

Side by side

Both prepare photos for engraving with material-specific settings. ImagR is a web service focused on the single image. Vextrify is a workshop tool around it: background removal, upscaling, vectorizing, layout with text and QR codes, batches, an API and laser control. If you only ever engrave a photo now and then, ImagR's free plan may be all you need.

  • Single image, browser → ImagR
  • Whole workflow from photo to laser → Vextrify

Try it with your own photo

Create a free account, load a photo you already engraved and compare the preview with your result. Pick the material profile first — the profile decides most of the tone work.

Common questions

What is ImagR?

ImagR is a browser service that prepares photos and graphics for laser engraving with one-click material presets and an Advanced Mode. Three images a day are free; more requires a subscription.

Is there an ImagR alternative without a per-image limit?

Vextrify's Photo Studio runs on your own computer and has no per-image fee for its local tools, so the number of photos does not change the cost.

Can Vextrify process many photos at once?

Yes. Save the settings as a recipe and Batch applies it to every photo in a folder, returning one ZIP. The API does the same for shop orders.

Does Vextrify send the photo to my laser?

In the desktop app, yes: the prepared image goes to Laser Control, which drives GRBL diode lasers and Ruida CO2 lasers. With a Studio plan, the browser version prepares files for download.
